Why Should I Get A French Press?
For now, I have one compelling reason to get one. You see, I went on vacation about three weeks ago and once again, I was reminded of one of my pet peeves: the hotel didn’t have brewed coffee. Can you believe that? I had no choice, so for the next 6 days, I was drinking instant coffee.
Then it hit me. I should just get a French press and bring it with me every time I go on vacation! You see, I like going to “exotic” locations where brewed coffee is not a daily need. I had already considered taking a small drip machine before but I would probably have problems at the airport. Perhaps a French press would be easier to lug around.
Aside from that fact though, what other reasons are there for me to get a French press?
The answer lies in the flavor of the drink that is made from a French press. Anyone who drinks drip coffee machine every day and then suddenly tries a brew made with a French press will know this: coffee made from the latter is definitely stronger and has more flavor. So, aside from being able to make coffee in a relatively simpler way, you also get to produce a more flavorful brew.
I think I am convinced. I shall take a look around when I get the chance and find me a good French press. Suggestions anyone? (Oh, and please don’t tell me to go to Starbucks to get one.)

I too am in the market for a French press. While I’ve always fancied getting one, I never made the push to do it. Our most recent move however has forced my hand. We do not have easy access to a stove where we live now, and my wife does not drink coffee. The old drip machine has been purged of it’s coffee roots and is used solely now to heat large quantities of water, which can be used for both tea and coffee made in a French press.
Please post when you find a good one, I’ve been browsing for some time, and have yet to find one that stands out!
I’ve been looking to get a French Press for a while. Everyone says it makes better coffee and I’d at least like to compare it.
I like my basic Bodum French Press.
Also, for Travel, though I personally haven’t tried it yet (but want to) – there’s a Travel French Press

You can get them at Target, too.

Looks like we’re all looking for a good French Press! I will definitely post when I finally get one…just need to sort out the good old finances.

We have 3. All of them are a Bodum Young Press. One stays at my office, one goes on deployment with my husband, who is active duty military and does not always have access to a drip machine or the facilities to use one, and one stays here for home use and goes with us on any trips we take(like my mother’s house, who drinks horrible, darkened water in her drip machine)…they are excellent for travel as they are made of a rubber & plastic outer shell …and they are very well priced. Next to my Breville Espresso maker, this my favorite coffee ‘maker’…
I would also recommend looking at an Aeropress for travel. There’s no metal (or glass) and it makes a single cup at a time, which can be handy on travel. You can get them from Amazon for pretty cheap, and it makes a great cup of coffee along the lines of the french press. Now if I could just figure out how to make my grinder portable I’d be set!
