Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was a way we can roast, grind, and brew coffee in one machine? Having a machine like this will give a whole new dimension to convenience coffee without relying on the instant version. Thanks to Kickstarter, the world may just have its very first fully working roast-grind-brew coffee machine.
The Design
The above image is a sketch of of the proposed roast-grind-brew machine. The design incorporates design suggestions crowd-sourced from all over the world. The machine is expected to have an air filter, air vent system, water tank, heating unit, coffee filter drawer, roasting unit, and on/off roasting degree.
The primary creators, Bonaverde Coffee Changers from Berlin Germany, are confident that they have arrived at a suitable design. They are focusing on developing a simple and easily understandable user interface. After 18 months of testing and already in the 5th generation of prototypes, they are confident that a fully functional machine will be ready in the very near future. At least 135 prototypes have been built and at least 15,000 people have sampled the coffee produced by the machines. The manufacturing partner has been signed up and commencement in production has been set.
Technical Details
The roasting process will be facilitated by a rotary system within a high-alloyed stainless steel container. The air vent system takes care of the smoke while the beans are roasted in a bigger roasting chamber. Roasting process will take approximately 3-4 minutes. A fan cools the beans before grinding.
The high quality ceramic cone grinder produces finely grounded coffee powder in less than 90 seconds. Using the rain shower brewing method, water is preheated during grinding to attain a temperature of 194 Degrees Fahrenheit or 90 Degrees Centigrade at the time it hits the coffee powder. The whole cycle time is expected to be finished within 12 to 14 minutes.
The proposed dimensions are similar to that of a typical fully automatic machine. Maximum weight is placed at 20 lbs. Capacity is from 2 to 12 cups.
Availability in the Market
Once regular manufacturing starts, successfully funded and developed products are promoted in select online stores such as the Stiqblox Kickstarter Store. This is where products deemed appropriate for commercial offering are presented for direction to respective creator’s page. Once the public is able to buy Kickstarter products, it is expected that the products like the Roast-Grind-Brew Coffee Machine will achieve commercial success.
